Mombacho Liga Maestro
I gotta admit, the name is the first reason I grabbed this stick. Mombacho has a big and mighty kinda ring to it, so I had to give it a whirl. At first grab, your eyes are drawn to the reddish brown Jalapa wrapper that almost calls your name. Off the foot, I get a rush of cinnamon and earthiness. As I smoke down on the first third, a touch of cream joins the club with a bit of spice creeping in on the retrohale. Moving into the mid section, the flavor starts to change just a bit. The cinnamon starts to fade and a shades of bitter floral notes move into the forefront. The ash is holding pretty strong and the burn is fantastic. Rolling through the upper middle, the bitterness has subsided and smooth cedar with a hint of spice is the dominant flavor. As I enter the final third, the surrounding flavors have been muted and Cedar and other woody flavors remain. This flavor continues into the final tip and closes this one out in a pleasantly simple way. The consistent woody profile would go great with a nice peaty Scotch. The Mombacho Liga Maestro is a nice medium plus smoke offering good flavor without all the complexity to make your head spin. Construction and burn was good, with only a couple minor touchups. This is a simple but effective blend to soothe the palate of you no nonsense smokers. Head over to your local spirit retailer, grab a bottle of Talisker(or your favorite peaty scotch), pour yourself a glass over ice. Step over to your favorite recliner with your glass in one hand, the Mombacha Liga Maestro in the other and sit back relax and enjoy the good life ……
