Avo Improvisation, Spontaneity at it’s Finest

Creativity is one of those things they say, either you have it or you don’t. Artist, musicians, architects, etc. have a knack for imagining things, then transforming them into a presentation for the world to see. What I’ve found is that these people tend to be creative far beyond their genre of choice. Avo Uvezian, founder of Avo, was a Jazz Pianist. His creative abilities not only transcended through the keys, but through cigars as well. Since 1988, AVO has been bringing us timeless classics. Avo has grown to be one of the most recognized names in cigars, and the blends are some of the most consistent in the industry. Today, I’ll be smoking the Avo Improvisation Limited Edition 2017. This cigar was blended using a very similar profile to the 2005 LE. The Improvisation is a 6×60 box pressed. It has a Habano Marron Claro wrapper from Ecuador, the appearance is veiny with little oil and slight tooth. The cold draw is a sweet hay, raisin and some spice. Upon lighting the foot, I’m getting lots of earth, woods subtle sweetness and some spice. Now into the first inch, the blend starts taking shape giving us a nice blend of earth, oak, caramel, fig and soft black pepper. The retrohale is pleasant black pepper and fig combination. Heading into the mid section, the woods moves to the front of the flavor profile while earth fades away leaving a blend of cedar, oak, caramel, fig, almonds and pepper. In the final third, the profile changes pushing toasted almonds to the front followed closely by woods, caramel and a dash of pepper. The final puffs were tasty with no bite or bitterness. The Avo Improvisation smokes at a medium to full in body, the burn was nice with little touches and the draw offered up plenty of smoke. All said and done, I’d give the Improvisation a round of applause. The number of flavor notes gave credence to this tasty complex profile. The term Limited edition is sometimes over used in this industry. The Avo Improvisation gives us hope that they’re still companies that take that title seriously and produce a high quality flavorful smoking experience.
