Partagas 1845 Extra Oscuro: Lots of History, Lots of Flavor
When is the last time you said, “the company that’s been around for 172 years” ? I can tell you, I’ve never made that statement. Well at Partagas, it goes without saying. A company rich in history and tradition, Partagas has been delighting the palate of millions with timeless classics. Today I will be smoking one of their newer blends, the extra Oscuro. Making it’s debut in 2012, this cigar is a bit different from the classics we’re used to from Partagas. The Extra Oscuro is much darker and said to be fuller than any of the other blends. So let’s dive in and get this party started. The Connecticut Habano Oscuro wrapper is a dark coffee brown with some visible veins, a bit of tooth and a purple and silver classy foil band. The cold draw is coffee, sweet hay and earth. Off the foot light, I get sweet earth, coffee and some fruits. Into the first inch, I’m getting notes of earth, fig and berries. The retrohale is a pleasant blend pepper and fig. The mid section smoothens adding cream to the mix. In the final third, the profile changes just a bit while cream, fig and cracked pepper move into the front while coffee and earth provides support. The final puff, is smooth and tasty with very little bite. The Extra Oscuro smokes at a solid medium with little burn issues and a good draw with plenty of smoke. Having smoked the Partagas line, this is a different cigar in a good way. Offering up more flavor than it’s siblings with a bit more body. If you enjoy Partagas cigars or you are looking for something classic with a twist, give the Extra Oscuro a shot. It will be worth your while, enjoy the good life my friends…
