HVC Black Friday, Let the Season Begin
For some of us, Black Friday marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season. Some folks have made it a tradition to rush the local shopping centers just hours after overeating and watching football. For HVC, it means a different tradition. Since 2015 HVC has been releasing a yearly limited edition smoke for our enjoyment, appropriately named “Black Friday”. Reinier Lorenzo, founder of HVC, wanted to pay homage to his home city and create a unique experience with each cigar. When I think of an “experience” when it comes to cigars, it’s not just taste for me. It’s the occasion, the people or the celebration that completes the experience. The HVC Black Friday gives us another occasion to pick up a stick, unless of course your like me and breathing is a good occasion to smoke. I have the Exquisito 4×48 for that occasion today. The Corojo 99 wrapper is a Carmel brown color with a few flat veins and a red HVC band. The cold draw is sweet cedar, hay and touch of cream. Off the foot light, I get cream, earth and leather. About an inch in, the blend starts to unfold giving us creamy leather, nutmeg, hint of vanilla and cracked pepper. The retrohale is a spicy cinnamon with a hint of nutmeg. Heading into the middle portion, the flavors continue with an assortment of toasted nuts joining the party. The final third is just as good as the first, with the leather backing off leaving creamy cedar, nutmeg, spice and nuts. The final puffs were bitter-less and a good close to the Black Friday experience. This cigar smokes at a medium body with no burn or draw issues. Without being to Cliche’ here, if you’re a fan of spiced Egg Nog or a holiday blend of coffee, this is a perfect pairing. The HVC Black Friday is a great short stick and the price is just as phenomenal. If you’re looking for a break in between those long lines at the mall, come on over and enjoy Black Friday…
