La Galera Habano, Not More of the Same
Next up in the La Galera series is the Habano. If you’re looking for info on the brand check out my post on the La Galera Connecticut. Today I’m working with the La Galera Habano toro size. One thing to note here, this is not just a change of wrapper the with same filler and binder as some companies do. Each blend, Connecticut, Habano and Maduro is different, which goes to show the high quality standards set forth by La Galera. That said, on to smoking! The Habano Toro has a beautifully oiled chocolate brown Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, little veins and a bit of tooth. The band is a colorful but classy foil, with lots of artwork with the brand and company names and a solid gold ribbon on the foot. The dry draw is a semi-sweet tobacco with a hint of spice. Notes off the foot include chocolate, nuts and black pepper. Inching up the first third, the profile gives me semi-sweet tobacco, chocolate, sunflower seeds, cedar, oak and mild black pepper. The retrohale is a blend of black and white pepper with toasted nuts in the background. The finish is a smooth malted cedar and combination of nuts. In the mid section, cedar and pepper moves up the palate but maintains a smooth experience. In the final third, the pepper backs off and the flavorful blend of the front third comes back around with a more robust nutty flavor. The final puffs offered up the same profile with no bitterness or bite. This cigar smokes at a medium body, with no burn or draw issues. All said and done, the La Galera Habano was a very impressive smoke. The cost to flavor and experience ratio is off the charts! Coming in around $7 this is an excellent choice for you folks that keep a close eye on the pennies. La Galera Habano is a stack em deep type stick, good for anytime or any occasion…
