Smoking Jacket Limited Edition II, Draped in Luxury
If you’re like me, you don’t consider Smoking Jacket a household cigar name. And for many of you this may be the first time you’ve been introduced to the name. Smoking Jacket debuted back in late 2013. Hendrik Kelner Jr. son of Hendrik Kelner, Sr., the master blender for Davidoff, decided to branch off and pursue his vision of the perfect cigar. In 2015, the company released it’s first limited edition cigar, aptly named the Smoking Jacket Limited Edition Gran Belicoso. Today, I have the most recent of the limited blends from the Kelner Boutique Factory, the Smoking Jacket Limited Edition II Grand Toro. This mostly Dominican cigar boasts a semi-oily Dominican Corojo wrapper, chocolate brown in color with some veins and a little tooth. The dry draw has hints of sweet tobacco, coffee and a little pepper. First few puffs off the foot, I get some earth and oak. Diving further into the first third, the profile really opens up to a nice blend of oak, cream, leather with some assorted nuts in the background. The retrohale is a white pepper with a bit of citrus flavor to it. The mid section get smoother and richer with cream, cedar, oak, sunflower seeds and a touch of sweet vanilla on the finish with coffee in the background. In the final third the cream tapers off leaving woods, earth and a hint of floral notes. The final puffs were just as tasty with just a bit of tongue bite at the end. The Limited Edition II smokes at a mild medium, with no burn or draw issues. The Smoking Jacket is a great stick for those who don’t want a powerhouse but is looking for flavor and a good smoking experience. If you haven’t tried a Smoking Jacket you’re missing out. The brand shows promise and with decades of experience I’m sure Mr. Kelner Jr. has a few tricks up his sleeve. So put on your Smoking Jacket and light one up…
