If you’re fan of the cigar industry like myself, you find yourself reading into the story behind the stick. The Highclere Castle is no exception. The cigar is inspired by the earlier Earls of Carnarvon to Highclere Castle at the turn of the 19th century. I can’t wait to dive into this beauty. The wrapper is a rich butterscotch color with light veins throughout. The cold draw is rich in cedar flavors. Diving into the first light, the flavor profile is smooth as opposed to the more than usual bitterness off the foot. The starting third is rich and butter smooth with cedar, leather and a hint of black pepper. The retrohale is just as enjoyable with a faint sweetness in the background. Rolling into the midsection, the Highclere Castle builds into a beautiful composition of flavors that include cedar, cream, honey, nutmeg and just enough pepper to keep your illustrious ride into the 19th century a memorable one. As I turn the corner into the final third, I find myself hoping this ride doesn’t end. It’s been quite a few years since I have enjoyed a Connecticut as much as I do the Highclere Castle. The end of this cigar is just as good as the beginning with some lemon citrus peeking in the background. The Highclere Castle smoked as a strong medium, the burn was perfect and at one point I had a snow white 3 inch ash that was even on all sides. I’d call this an All Day stick, meaning at any point of the day you could enjoy this smoke. Whether it’s the start of your morning, the end of your day or the calm in between the storms of powerhouse sticks, the Highclere Castle is a must have for all cigar smokers. Don’t grab just one, grab them by the handful because this my friends is a classic…….

This is an exciting day! I’ve been looking forward to this one since the announcement. I’ve walked into Ford on Fifth for weeks hoping to see that red band staring me in the face and finally the day has come. Without hesitation I grab the Churchill Wise Man Maduro slip it out the wrapper and give it a once over. I’m immediately taken by the rich, oily Mexican San Andreas wrapper and the smell is just as inviting. The cold draw is rich in Cocoa and coffee. That’s it I’m diving in…. At first burn you get a delicious blend of Cocoa, dark roast coffee and toasted almonds. The retrohale adds a spice component while maintaining a creamy blend of these bold flavors. As I smoke through this magnificent beauty, I’m blown away by it’s complexity. The ability to take these bold flavors such as coffee and cocoa, smooth them out to create an enjoyable experience without going over the top is amazing. Smoking into the middle of this hour and a half vacation, I’m met with the introduction of subtle black pepper and fig. The level of spice is starting to climb but not to a point that it over powers the complex blend. As I come into the final third of this batch of goodness, the spice has passed the baton to the taste of toasted nuts to round out this excellent stick. Foundations has done it yet again! This line has put out some heavy hitters and the Wise Man Maduro did not let us down. The cigar smokes medium to full, awesome burn throughout with no touchups needed. The Wise Man Maduro is one for the ages. Grab a box, better yet grab two you will enjoy this smoke for years to come. I can’t say enough about this stick, it has met all my expectations and has me reaching for another. What else can I say ….. ENJOY!
