Well this has been a great ride. The La Galera blends have been wonderfully pleasing. Today, I’ll be smoking my last blend in the line up, the La Galera Maduro. I save the Maduro for last, mainly because I tend to favor Maduros. For La Galera, most of their treasures come from their farms. But, the comapny knows that you can’t end the search for flavor without looking abroad. Fine quality and taste is accomplished by working with the best tobacco. The La Galera Maduro is a product of that search for exceptional flavor. I’m working with the Robusto size for this post, but I’d like to get through all of the sizes at some point. This cigar has a nice chocolate brown colored San Andres wrapper with some visible veins and a bit of oil to it. It also has a double band with the Classy La Galera art and another to signify Maduro. The pre-light draw is sweet tobacco, cocoa and citrus. Off the foot, I’m getting earth, leather and dark chocolate. Inching into the first third, I get a blend of earth, leather, dark chocolate and a hint of soft pepper. The retrohale is a black pepper and cinnamon combination. In the mid section, earth and unsweetened dark chocolate dominate the profile while a hint of citrus creeps into the background. The final third softens, adding a bit of cream to the profile. The final puffs on this stick were very smooth, I expected some bite on the end and I did not get it. The La Galera Maduro smokes at a solid medium body, the burn was good with little touches. The draw was nice, offering plenty of smoke. Without sounding like a broken record, the value here is outstanding. If you like a good Maduro in bunches, grab the La Galera. This cigar has the great qualities of the Maduro wrapper with a flavor profile like no other. Smoke and enjoy…

La Galera 1936 Box Pressed, Establishing Foundation

La Galera’s impressive line has been a work of art. So far, I’ve smoked through more than half the line and haven’t had a bad one yet. Today, I’ll be smoking the 1936 Box Pressed Torpedo. Previously I, smoked the 80th Anniversary. While both cigars commemorate the beginning of a tradition, the 1936 Box pressed celebrates the opening of the Tabacerlara Palma factory. The same production process defined at its foundation is still used today, making Tabacerlara a timeless classic in the cigar industry. This factory is responsible for many brands we smoke today. The cigar it self is very different from wrapper to blend than the 80th Anniversary and I’m excited to see what we have in store. The 1936 Box Pressed has a lightly oiled medium brown Ecuadorian Habano wrapper with visible visible flat veins throughout. As with the other La Galeras, a beautiful band with colorful artwork and a second black band for Box Pressed. The dry draw is semi-sweet tobacco, chocolate and a bit of spice. Off the foot, I’m getting black pepper spice and earth tones. First third opens up to a nice blend of black pepper, cedar, cream and hints of cinnamon. The retrohale is a hearty dose of Cayenne pepper and cinnamon. The mid section softens the profile, moving the pepper back and brings creamy cedar to the forefront without losing the spicy edge. In the final third, the cream tails off leaving a smooth blend of cedar, earth and soft pepper. In the final puffs, the cream came back around finishing this stick off with great flavor. The La Galera 1936 Box Pressed smokes at a Medium Plus with 1 minor touch up and a great draw with plenty of smoke. The reoccurring theme with La Galera is VALUE! A high quality Box Pressed with great flavor for under $10! I don’t want to barrage you with superlatives but I’ll say this, the La Galera 1936 Box Pressed is the real deal. Get your hands on some, I guarantee you will not be disappointed….

La Galera 80th Anniversary, Recognition of Tradition

Moving right along in the La Galera series, I’ve decided to go with the 80th Anniversary Limited Edition. This cigar was made to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Blanco’s first factory and to recognize the traditions built for the generations. I’ll be smoking the Box Pressed Toro for this post. Looking at this cigar, it is a beauty! The 80th Anniversary has a gorgeous oily dark brown San Andres wrapper with nearly any veins and a nice toothiness to it. The cold draw is a semi-sweet chocolate and tobacco. Just off the foot, you get a sense that you’re in for a treat with heavy notes of chocolate, oak and some spice. Smoking through the first third, the profile opens up to chocolate, cinnamon, leather and a bit of white pepper. The retrohale is an intense combination of pepper and cinnamon. As I roll into the mid section, I’ve got about a 2 inch ash with an even burn. The cinnamon picks up a tinge while the chocolate falls back into the profile, leaving cinnamon, leather and pepper to dominate. The finish is a pleasant spicy cinnamon. In the final third, the blend smoothens while introducing a hint of dark roast coffee in the background. The last puffs were smooth and rich with flavor with a slight bite and no bitterness. The 80th Anniversary smokes at a medium plus with a perfect burn and plenty of smoke on the draw. The La Galera 80th Anniversary gave a great smoking experience. Coming in at just under 90 minutes the value here is noteworthy. The 80th is priced well under it’s premium cigar competitors. As with the other La Galeras I’ve smoked to this point, the price is unbelievable. If you are into the look, feel and experience of a high quality premium cigar, look no further the La Galera 80th Anniversary is where it’s at….
